Everybody attending C++ & Beyond will receive a notebook with color copies of all the presentation materials that Scott, Herb, and Andrei use during their technical sessions.  The same materials will also be provided in PDF form, so attendees will have both hard- and electronic copies of all the materials.  The printed materials will look very nice, but we’re aware that some people have crossed the digital divide and now prefer to consume their information in electronic form.  If you’re one of them, you may have no interest in a notebook of conference handouts.  In that case, you may want to “go green:”  to skip the handouts, and use only the PDFs. To that end, C&B is offering a PDF-only “green” option for presentation handouts.  People choosing that option will still get the PDFs and everything else associated with C&B, they just won’t have a notebook filled with paper to take home with them.

If you’re attending October’s C&B, you’ll soon get email asking whether you want to avail yourself of this option, i.e., if you want to opt in to getting PDF only (i.e., no paper  handouts).  If so, please reply to the email making your choice clear.  If we don’t hear from you, we’ll assume you want a notebook, and we’ll make sure one is waiting for you when you arrive.

The PDFs will have no digital security associated with them, so people who go green can still add comments and otherwise mark up their copies of the materials by editing the PDFs (assuming they have a program that can modify PDFs).

If you have questions or comments about this, let us know (e.g., via email or blog comment).  If you have other suggestions on how we can reduce the environmental impact associated with the event, let us know that, too.

Thanks,

Scott
