The Banff Springs Hotel

C++ and Beyond 2010 sold out months in advance, so Scott, Herb, and Andrei held an encore presentation a few weeks later. Clearly, they were on to something! For 2011, C++ and Beyond will be even better, retaining the aspects of C&B 2010 that worked especially well, while taking advantage of the improvements suggested by C&B 2010 participants.

C++ and Beyond is an intimate, conference-like event built around intensive technical sessions by Herb, Andrei, and Scott, but designed to also facilitate the exchange of experiences and insights among the unusually talented developers who attend.  Attendance is limited to 100 people. Technical sessions focus on topics of special interest to professional developers where Andrei, Scott, and Herb have expertise.  The topics for their presentations at C&B 2011 will be finalized as the event draws near, but it’s fair to say that two themes will dominate:  techniques for the development of high-performance (often highly concurrent) software, and important new features in C++0x.

Here are the sessions confirmed so far, all brand-new material the speakers have never written about or presented before:

More session details will be posted to the C&B blog as they are determined.

Scott’s, Herb’s, and Andrei’s backgrounds vary, but these C++ legends have three things in common. First, they’re interested not just in C++, but in how its power can be applied to real and challenging problems.  Second, they have an uncanny ability to explain complex technical material. Most importantly, they know how to create an event worthy of even the most skilled and experienced C++ developers.
  • Scott Meyers wrote the books Effective C++, More Effective C++, and Effective STL.  He publishes and maintains annotated training materials dedicated to C++0x and to the use of C++ in embedded systems. His current focus is on techniques for the development of  low-latency systems in C++.
  • Herb Sutter wrote four books and hundreds of technical articles on C++ and concurrency. He chairs the ISO C++ standards committee and led or participated in the design of several C++0x features.
  • Andrei Alexandrescu is working in areas as varied as C++, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and design of the D programming language. This work has led to three books (one coauthored with Herb Sutter himself) and numerous other publications.
